(My bezier zero to infinite thoughts about “Zero” and “Infinity”!)
What if “0” does not exist?! Very rubbish idea because we then will need to write page after page to represent a very big number! So thanks to “Zero”!
Actually, the question should be-“Does the concept of ‘0’ exist in reality?” or “Is there any practical situation that could represent “Zero”? Why not? If the kid is eaten up all his/her 3 chocolates, we should say there are “no” or “0” chocolates to eat! But you could trick the kid by saying-“No, no, still there are 3 chocolates!” The kid will cry and will ask you to buy more! But logically both of you are right!
For the kid, there are “no” or “Zero” chocolates to eat and for you, there are still 3 chocolates still residing now in the kid’s belly and waiting for digestion! Thus we relate the concept of “0” to no chocolates but truly I will appreciate your cleverness that, still there are 3 chocolates and it is true for our known world! Actually, there is no “0” like situation! Everything in this world just changes their states. We know that an ideal gas will have “0” volume in “0” kelvins but in reality, any gas would change their phase to liquid or solid long before reaching absolute zero! So if we try for years, we could not find any “0” volume. You could say that there is nothing in terrestrial space between terrestrial objects so we can term this space as “Zero space”. Conceptually, we can but in reality, there are atomic particles, energy, waves, etc. Then what about “0” degree temperature. Yes, we feel it and even we feel minus temperatures! True, you are feeling but to define those states or feelings, we just introduced some numerical scale of temperatures.
Actually, every number is abstract; we simply relate the physical conditions with those numbers. If there is one bird on the branch, we will relate the sign”1” as there is 1 bird. It is noteworthy that, positive numbers are more realistic than “0” or “-“ or complex numbers cause we can relate their meaning or conception with the real world easily but concept of nothingness or “0” is merely available in real world and “minus” is more far away and so the concept of “infinity”. Thus I make my hypothesis that there is no such real condition, that could represent our concept of “0”, “minus “or “infinity”. Real world changes while reaching these mathematical numbers. So let “0” to ease our mathematics and believe that it could apparently make sense of “nothingness” but truly it is not and we could have the same thought about infinity! Again, if in this universe, there exist any another civilization, there might not exist any numbers that with are we used to! So space researchers might terminate our infinite world into finite one!
